UK Summer Power Demand

News this week from the National Grid shows their lowest ever forecast of electricity/power demand on the UKs Grid this summer, at a likely peak of 37.5 GW. This is due to the increased private use of solar installations.

In their summer market outlook, National Grid have stated that Solar Photovoltaic capacity nearly doubled from February 2014’s 2.4 GW to an impressive 4.4 GW in February this year. With further increases up to 5.5 GW expected by February 2016.

With private solar installations providing excess electricity to neighbouring properties and businesses, the power demand from the main grid is decreasing. Resultant figures like these are just what the renewable energy sector needs to see published more often. As consumers become aware of the positive impact that renewable energy installations have on grid demand, we hope to see further reductions in grid dependency.
